RADISH

RADISH

What Season

radish are traditionally a spring crop
Leave the Radish in the ground over winter, wait for it to flower and then seed. Remove the seeds from the plant and put in a container and shake to remove the seeds from the husks. Pick out the seeds and put them in an envelope and keep in a cool, dark, dry, place.
Plant in dry sandy well draining soil. Radish will get discoloured centres and rot if they are in consistently wet soil. Radishes are brassicas (the same family as cabbage) so do not grow in the same place repeatedly or you risk fungal diseases.

Sowing

Sow it were you grow it!
Radish seeds are pretty sturdy so there is no need to over sow. Sow into seed trays or direct sow straight into the bed in spring/autumn.
  • Radish is a quick easy crop to grow. It usually only takes them around a month to grow to full size if it is the standard variety. If the plant looks like it is going to flower, pull it out immediately or leave it flower to feed insects. Sow them every week to have a supply of radish.
Everything you need

GROWING YOUR FIRST RADISH

  • Just like beetroot it's only held into the ground by a few hairlike roots.

  • Just pull them out of the ground, twist the tops off, wash & store in the fridge.
