Pengelli Primary School – Exploring Permaculture Principles
Room 2 Grow Wales’ second visit to Pengelli Primary School was all about exploring the principles of permaculture and sustainable growing. After building planters during their first session, the students were eager to learn how to make the most of their new gardening spaces.
The workshop focused on the ethics and principles of permaculture, including earth care, people care, and fair share. The children were introduced to companion planting, natural pest control, and soil health – essential elements for maintaining a thriving and productive planter. Through engaging activities and discussions, they learned how to create a mini-ecosystem that supports biodiversity and sustainability.
One of the most exciting moments of the session was when the students planted their first seeds. They carefully placed herbs, vegetables, and flowers into the soil, understanding that each plant plays a role in the health of the garden. The Room 2 Grow team emphasized how nurturing these plants would lead to a rewarding harvest, tying into the importance of patience and responsibility.
By the end of the workshop, the students were buzzing with ideas and eager to see their plants flourish. They left with a newfound understanding of how nature works in harmony and how they could contribute to a greener future.
