What Season

Spinach is a cool-weather crop, thriving in spring and autumn when temperatures stay between 5-15°C.

It struggles in hot weather, quickly bolting and becoming bitter. Some heat-tolerant varieties exist, but for best results, plant spinach in early spring or late summer for a fall harvest.

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) is a leafy green vegetable known for its tender, nutrient-rich leaves. It is typically grown as an annual and thrives in cool weather. Originally domesticated in Persia (modern-day Iran), spinach has spread worldwide and is widely consumed both raw in salads and cooked in various dishes.

Sowing

Sow it were you grow it!
  • Sow seeds directly in soil or in trays for later transplanting.

  • Plant 1 cm deep and 5 cm apart.

  • Thin seedlings to 10 cm spacing for proper growth.

  • Suitable for container gardening.

  • Spinach is ready for harvest in 40-50 days.

  • You can start picking outer leaves once they are large enough to eat or harvest the entire plant by cutting at the base. Regular picking encourages new growth, allowing for multiple harvests.
